BUYING A HOME ON SALT SPRING ISLAND

Have you dreamt about living by the sea or walking through the trees of your own private forest?

This and many other ‘dream’ properties are available on Salt Spring Island. There are many housing styles and locations to choose from and my job is to make sure that you have been shown all the options available to you.

LIVING THE DREAM

Most of us are here for the nature…

and the nature of Salt Spring is a unique rural agrarian, arts, dance, farmers and artisans. With one of the mildest climates in Canada it’s a gardener’s paradise also. Forests, ocean, sky, 5 star resorts, fishing, hiking, camping, the farmer’s market, the yoga and dance community, the artists, musicians and dancers;

The people are what make Salt Spring so wonderful. Safe, clean, vibrant, idylic in so many ways.

WHEN BUYING A HOME

THERE ARE A FEW THNGS I LIKE MY CLIENTS TO KNOW:

1.

I ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS

We’re going to be spending a lot of time together. In that time, my attention’s going to be focused on finding you the perfect place to call home.

In order to do that, I’m going to do my best to get as much information from you as I can. That’ll help me understand what you’re looking for and guide me in my ability to help you. It’s not about being nosy; it’s about getting to know you well enough to understand what’s going to make you happy.

Sometimes we’ll talk about what you loved about a place we’ve just viewed, and sometimes we’ll talk about what I think you’ll like about a house we’re about to go see. I’m going to want to know what you love, what you hate, and why you feel that way.

2.

WHEN YOU TALK, I LISTEN

When you ask me to help you find a house, I’m not looking for just the building that you will occupy. I’m looking for the place where you’re going to live your life, at least for a while anyway.

Finding you that home you’re going to live your life in is a big responsibility, but it’s one that I take very seriously.

My best tool for helping you starts with my ability to listen. Here’s the thing though: knowing what I know about real estate, my listening always includes my experience and expertise. When you tell me what you’re looking for, I connect it with what I know about buying a home on Salt Spring.

3.

IT’S NOT A CRAPSHOOT

There are a lot of options in terms of housing styles available to you on Salt Spring Island. That being said, not every option is actually an option. Some properties will seem just right; and some houses will be outside of your price range. Somewhere in the middle though, you’re going to find a place that’s just right for you.

The trick to finding the right place is to know what you want, to tell me where you can be flexible, and to understand your purchasing power against what’s going on in the real estate market right now.

Buying a home would be easier if it wasn’t such a personal decision. I get that buying a home on Salt Spring Island, as much as anywhere else, is about as personal a decision as you can get. That’s why I work so hard to help you see the right houses and the potential in them.

4.

YOU DON’T ALWAYS KNOW WHAT YOU WANT

I wish I could count the number of times that I’ve had clients completely change their minds about the “deal-breakers” on their wish list.

The thing is, when you start out looking for the house of your dreams, you discover the only place it really exists is in your mind. Here’s the fun part, though. in reality, the houses that are on the market may be very different than what you had in mind. Any one of them could include features that you absolutely love, but never thought of. To me, that’s one of the most fun aspects of real estate.

5.

YOU CAN LEARN IT PAYS TO RECOGNIZE POTENTIAL

I like to think of every house I show in terms of both the benefits and features you can see and the untapped potential you maybe can’t.

I’ve always had a good eye for picking up on the second part. Sometimes it’s good to be able to imagine what a place could be like with a couple of its walls gone, or some well thought out landscaping, or whatever else might make the the difference that makes all the difference.
